Eight-time Nigerian champions, Rangers International, are set to lock horns with Enyimba in the highly anticipated Oriental Derby clash this Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

The encounter, which is a Matchday 35 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), promises to deliver another chapter of pride, passion, and raw intensity between two of Nigeria’s most decorated football clubs.

Although the encounter has been declared a closed-door fixture, following league sanctions on Rangers, the atmosphere around the derby remains electric, with both clubs carrying the weight of history, tradition, and title ambition into Sunday’s clash at the Cathedral.

For the Flying Antelopes, this is more than a derby; it is a statement opportunity.

Following their away 0-0 goalless draw with Niger Tornadoes last Sunday in Minna, Rangers head into the game not having a good record in their last three league matches and after being held to a goalless draw by Barau FC, in the last home game, Rangers gaffer, Fidelis Ilechukwu, will be hoping for the team continues fighting as they keep their hopes alive of winning the title at the end of the season.

Rangers know well that a victory over their Oriental rivals this Sunday could propel them above Rivers United in the race for the top spot.

But history is not on the Rangers’ side. Because Enyimba have enjoyed the upper hand in this rivalry, boasting a superior head-to-head record of 29 meetings, Enyimba 14 wins, Rangers 9 wins, 6 draws in all of their 29 meetings in the league.
