World Cup: D’Tigress draw France, Korea in Group B

Nigeria’s D’Tigress have been drawn in Group B alongside France, the Republic, and Hungary at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026.

The draw, which was held on Tuesday, April 21, in Berlin, is for the biggest women’s competition, which is scheduled to be held in Germany from September 4 to 13.

Group B is quite a tricky mix for the Nigerian ladies. France are the top team going by their world ranking. The French ladies stand out as the biggest threat to the African champions. Hungary and Nigeria will be meeting for the first time, which will make the game a very careful affair for both sides, while the ladies from the Republic are familiar foes. Their high-tempo style gave them victory over D’Tigress in the World Cup qualifiers played in March.

Hosts Germany are in Group A with Spain, Japan, and Mali. The Malians need everything in their arsenal to survive this group. Group C is made up of Belgium, Australia, Puerto Rico, and Turkey, while world champions USA head Group D with the Czech Republic, Italy, and China.

D’Tigress are making their third appearance at the Women’s World Cup, after 2006 and a historic quarter-final finish in 2018. The African champions, however, missed the 2022 edition in Sydney despite qualifying. A government-imposed suspension spearheaded by former sports minister Sunday Dare forced D’Tigress to withdraw, with Mali as their replacement.
