Ademola Lookman is out this season’s UEFA Champions League final after Arsenal beat Atlético Madrid fell 1-0 in their semi-final second leg clash in London.
The result from the Emirates Stadium sealed a 2-1 aggregate victory for Arsenal, ending Nigeria’s Lookman’s dream of getting to the final game.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the Spanish side needed a response away from home but were undone by a decisive moment late in the first half.
Bukayo Saka proved the difference, reacting quickest inside the penalty area to convert from close range and hand Arsenal the advantage just before the break.
As the visitors chased the game in the second half, Diego Simeone introduced several changes, with Lookman among those withdrawn as fresh attacking options were brought on in search of an equaliser.
Despite late pressure, Atlético struggled to carve out clear-cut chances.
The final whistle confirmed their progression to the Champions League final, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
