Rangers of Enugu won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title on Sunday, May 24, 2026. They were crowned after a 2-1 win over Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, also on Sunday.

This is the ninth league title in the Coal City club’s history, and it equals the old record held by Enyimba FC.

Rangers won the most-waited encounter that decided both the league winner and the Confederations Cup representative. It was one of the most advertised games in the history of the Nigerian league. The champions scored once in each half against the equally brilliant Ikorodu City to claim the precious three points that sealed the title for the Fidelis Ilechukwu-led team.

Captain Chidiebere Nwobodo became the superhero of the last day of the league after he scored both goals. Shehu Dikko, the National Sports Commission chairman, and his director-general, Bukola Olopade, watched the game from the stands.

Rangers took the lead in the 30th minute when Nwobodo produced a spectacular finish to stun the hosts, before doubling the visitors’ advantage from a rebound for 2-0.

Ikorodu City reduced the deficit, but Rangers held on to claim the needed points for the title win.

Rangers finish the season with 68 points, one point ahead of Rivers United, who also won 3-0 in their fixture. The odds favoured Rivers before the kick-off.

The Flying Antelopes claim their second title in three seasons.

Rangers will lead Nigeria to the CAF Champions League next season, alongside Rivers United.
