Nigeria beat Jamaica 3-0 to retain Unity Cup

Nigeria retained the Unity Cup title on Saturday after defeating Jamaica 3-0 in the final game played at The Valley in London. Alhassan Yusuf scored a brace, and Terem Moffi added another goal in a dominant display by the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles defended the trophy they won last year, producing a clinical performance against the Reggae Boyz.

Nigeria, who booked their place in the final with a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe, wasted little time asserting their dominance as Yusuf opened the scoring in the fourth minute.

The midfielder reacted quickest after a long throw was flicked on inside the penalty area, converting the rebound after Jamaica goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe had initially made a save.

The Super Eagles continued to control proceedings and doubled their advantage in the 59th minute through Moffi.

Femi Azeez, one of the standout performers of the tournament, delivered a pinpoint cross from the left flank, and Moffi rose highest to head past the Jamaican goalkeeper.

Jamaica struggled to create meaningful opportunities despite enjoying spells of possession, though they had a penalty appeal waved away after Arthur Okonkwo collided with Kaheim Dixon during a rare attack.

Nigeria remained comfortable throughout the contest and wrapped up the victory in stoppage time when Yusuf grabbed his second goal of the evening.

The victory further cemented Nigeria’s dominance in the Unity Cup, with the Super Eagles now having won all four editions of the tournament since its inception in 2002.
