Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) team, Plateau United, have advanced into the President’s Federation Cup quarter-finals following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Lafia-based NNL side, FC Basira. It was a Round of 16 match played on Saturday at the FIFA Goal Project Field, Abuja.

The Jos-based NPFL side took the lead after 26 minutes when Paul Magit finished a delightful solo to give Gbenga Ogunbote’s side a 1-0 lead going into the halftime break.

In the second half, Plateau United continued their dominance in the game as Dawa Victor doubled the lead, just two minutes into the restart of the second half.  Second-half substitute, Sunday Aluku, pulled a goal back for FC Basira to reduce the deficit to 2-1 in the 62nd minute.

Despite the fightback, the NPFL side held on as they booked their place in the quarter-finals of the President’s Federation Cup in Abuja.

Plateau United will take on the winner between Rivers United and Nasarawa United in the last eight next week.
