Cape Verde’s incredible journey at the 2026 World Cup continued on Sunday as they drew 2-2 with Uruguay.
The result follows Cape Verde’s draw with Spain last week, and their rollercoaster ride continued in Miami.
Kevin Pina opened the scoring for Cape Verde, their first goal in a World Cup, with an outrageous 30-yard free kick. Goals from Maxi Araújo and Agustín Canobbio gave Uruguay the lead before Hélio Varela came on in the second half to snatch a point for the African island nation.
Cape Verde made their tournament debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Before the match against Uruguay, they made global headlines by securing their first-ever point in a shock 0-0 draw against European powerhouse Spain.
Their World Cup story is surely a continuation of the wonderful run they had during the World Cup qualifiers that eventually secured them a ticket to the biggest football event.
