Ekene Awazie to leave Enyimba after four-year spell

Forward Ekene Awazie will leave Enyimba after four years spell when his contract expires with the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) giants this month.

Awazie, who joined the people’s Elephants from FC Ifeanyiubah following the conclusion of the 2020/21 NPFL season, confirmed to Extrasportnigeria.com that he would be leaving the club after four years. He confirmed that he will not renew his contract ahead of next season with the nine-time NPFL Champions.

“I will leave Enyimba when my contract expires at the end of this month,” Awazie stated.

The skillful and fast forward made a total of 112 league appearances while scoring 13 goals and registering six assists. He was part of the last Enyimba side that won the league title under Finidi George during the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The Owerri-born forward also featured in both the African Super League and CAF Champions League with Enyimba, making four appearances.

Awazie, who had a difficult individual campaign in the just-concluded 2025/26 NPFL season, scored one goal in 10 league appearances after he was ruled out for three months due to an injury he suffered after the 2024/25 season. While he ended the campaign as the club’s joint-top scorer with seven goals after he made 27 league appearances.

He also featured in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup and made an appearance in the African Super League before deciding to move on at the end of his current contract with the club this month.
