Kano Pillars appoints Ogunmodede as new technical adviser

Four-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Kano Pillars, have appointed former Remo Stars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, as their new Technical Adviser.

According to Isma’eel Abba Tangalashi, Media Director, Kano Pillars FC, the former Remo Stars Head coach has signed a two-year contract with the club and will arrive with his own backroom staff as the Pillars begin preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

Coach Ogunmodede left Remo Stars after leading them to their first-ever league title during the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

In addition to his club role, Ogunmodede also serves as an assistant with the Nigeria national team. He previously gained experience as an assistant at Portuguese third-division side CD Feirense under Rui Ferreria from 2021 to 2022.

The appointment, observers say, shows Kano Pillars’ determination to build on the restructuring that has taken place behind the scenes ahead of the new season. The club recently unveiled a new management board led by Ahmad Musbahu and outlined an ambitious vision of restoring the former league champions to the summit of Nigerian football.

This is arguably the biggest challenge of his managerial career. He leaves behind the long-term project he built at Remo Stars to take charge of one of the NPFL’s most demanding clubs, where expectations extend beyond competing for honours to returning the club to continental football.

The 46-year-old’s decision to bring his own technical crew signals the club’s willingness to hand him full control of football operations as he seeks to implement his philosophy from the outset, and as pre-season preparations fast approach, attention will now shift to recruitment as Ogunmodede begins work on assembling a squad capable of meeting the lofty ambitions of Kano Pillars.
