Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, will host the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II Elective Congress on December 12. The 15-member regional athletics body is preparing to elect new leadership that will steer its affairs for the next four years.

The congress is expected to bring together delegates and athletics administrators from the 15 nations of CAA Region II to deliberate on the future of athletics development across the region and also elect a new executive council.

Nigeria’s Tonobok Okowa, who currently serves as the President of CAA Region II and Senior Vice President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), is the incumbent leader heading into the congress. His administration has been widely noted for efforts to strengthen regional athletics competitions and collaboration among member nations.

The Abuja congress is expected to shape the direction of athletics administration in West Africa and beyond, with key discussions likely to focus on talent development, infrastructure, competitions, and regional partnerships.

With Abuja set to welcome athletics stakeholders from across the continent, expectations are high for a congress that could redefine the future of CAA Region II.
