El-Kanemi Warriors secured their second President Federation Cup trophy in three years, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lagos-based side, Ikorodu City FC, on Saturday, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
The Maiduguri-based side made a huge run in the oldest club competition in the country after they were relegated from the Nigerian top-flight league last season.
Muktar Ismail continued his impressive scoring form for El-Kanemi Warriors after he converted the spot kick in the 35th minute, as they went into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.
Despite sustained efforts by Ikorodu City to find an equaliser in the second half, the Maiduguri-based side defended resolutely to preserve their slender advantage until the final whistle and reclaim Nigeria’s oldest domestic football trophy.
The triumph marks El-Kanemi Warriors’ fourth President Federation Cup title, adding the 2026 crown to their previous successes in 1991, 1992 and 2024.
The victory further cements the club’s place among the competition’s most successful teams and caps another memorable campaign for the former champions.
For Ikorodu City FC, it was a spirited performance, but they were unable to overturn the early setback as El-Kanemi Warriors celebrated another historic Federation Cup success. El-Kanemi Warriors will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup alongside Shooting Stars SC.
