Egypt Sweeps Team Titles at ITTF Africa Youth Championships in Accra

Egypt stamped its authority on the team events at the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships in Accra, claiming three of the four titles on offer to reaffirm its dominance as the continent’s premier table tennis nation.

The North Africans swept aside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Algeria to secure the U15 boys’ crown and the girls’ U19 title, while also reclaiming the girls’ U15 trophy.

Nigeria, the defending champions, endured a difficult campaign. They scraped past hosts Ghana 3–2 in the semifinal but were comprehensively outclassed in the final, where Egypt delivered a flawless 3–0 victory. Led by their talisman Asser Sameh, the Egyptians wasted no time in asserting control. Ahmed Elsabbagh opened proceedings with a commanding 3–0 win over Marvelous Joseph (11–8, 11–5, 13–11). Sameh followed with another straight-sets triumph, dispatching Usman Ayoola 3–0 (11–9, 12–10, 11–7), before Hussein Eyad sealed the championship with a clinical 3–0 victory over Samson Joshua (11–9, 11–9, 11–8).

In the girls’ U-15 division, Egypt produced a strong performance to overcome Tunisia 3–1, reclaiming the title they had surrendered to Uganda in 2025.

Their dominance continued in the girls’ U-19 category, where they humbled Algeria with a resounding 3–0 win to retain their crown.

With three team titles secured, Egypt’s campaign in Accra underscored not only their depth of talent but also their enduring supremacy in African youth table tennis.
