Amusan gets bronze as Charlton wins Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles gold

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan had to settle for the bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after finishing third in a highly competitive race won by The Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton.

Charlton produced a brilliant performance to cross the finish line in 12.33 seconds, upgrading the silver medal she won at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to gold in Glasgow.

Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds claimed the silver medal with a time of 12.41 seconds, while Amusan clocked 12.60 seconds to complete the podium.

The bronze-medal finish marked the end of Amusan’s reign as Commonwealth champion, having won successive gold medals in 2018 and 2022. Despite missing out on a third consecutive title, the Nigerian sprint hurdler once again demonstrated her consistency by finishing among the medals on one of the biggest stages in the sport.

South Africa’s Marione Fourie finished fourth in 12.66 seconds, ahead of Australia’s Michelle Jenneke (12.84) and Canada’s Tatiana Aholou (12.86). Ghana’s Evonne Britton placed seventh in 13.04 seconds, while Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill was unable to finish the race.

Amusan’s bronze adds another medal to Nigeria’s athletics campaign at the Games, as the team continues its pursuit of podium finishes in Glasgow.

So far, it’s a gold and three bronze medals from Team Nigeria Athletics, with an additional gold from para athletics.
