Team ‎Nigeria wins 3rd African Para-Track Championship

The third edition of the Confederation of African Cycling, Para-Track Championships was concluded at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Sunday, with Team Nigeria emerging tops.

‎After two days of stiff competition among the five countries, Team Nigeria won a total of 13 medals, the same number as second-placed Egypt, but emerged the winner, having garnered eight gold medals to Egypt’s 5.

‎Kenya beat South Africa to the third position despite having three gold medals each, with a silver to South Africa’s none, while Algeria placed fifth with two silver medals.

‎Team Nigeria’s gold medals came through the pairs of Ismail Barakat and Marvelous Olawale in the Women’s 1km Time Trial, Favour Ojiabu and Tawakalt Yekeen in the Women’s B Individual Pursuit, as well as two from Umar Tukur in the Men C4 Individual Pursuit, plus the Men C4 Scratch event.

‎In the Time Trial for Men C, Adeniyi Ayodimeji won the gold in the MC 5 category, while Umar Tukur won another gold in the Time Trial in the MC 4 event, his third while in the Time Trial Men B category, it was a clean sweep of the gold, silver and bronze for Team Nigeria with the gold going to the pair of Sunday Badung and Yohanna Elkana.

‎In the Women’s 1km Time Trial, the pair of Ismail Barakat and Marvelous Olawale beat fellow Nigerians, Favour Ojiabu and Tawakalt Yekeen, to win the gold.

‎The second part of the competition, the 12th Track Championships, begins on Tuesday at the same venue as Monday, which was set aside for the technical meeting involving all participating teams’ managers and the technical officials for the competition.
